Sasquatch!

Sunshine... it's been ages.

This might convince me to attend the Sasquatch! music Festival this year. It may have rained at times, but the sun was brilliantly radiant last year.

... but WHY are Kings of Leon headlining the first day??! Last year: R.E.M., the Cure, and the Flaming Lips headlined each day, respectively. Each was expected to deliver, and they did.

At least Nine Inch Nails will co-headline the 2nd day this year, along with reformed Jane's Addiction (NINJA!). I don't have any interest in JA, but NIN will implode the Gorge.

Aside from them, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Silversun Pickups, Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes, Explosions in the Sky, of Montreal... too many to missout on.

Below is a sample of what NIN will deliver.

<lj-embed id="1" />

So, here's how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that's playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don't lie and try to pretend your cool...just type it in man!

*Note: Some may not recognize these songs, but I'll post this regardless.

Opening Credits:
John Coltrane - Countdown

Waking Up:
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Rich

First Day At School:
A Perfect Circle - Brena

Falling In Love:
Isis – Dulcinea

Losing Virginity:
Billy Joel – Allentown

Fight Song:
Chemical Brothers – Orange Wedge

Breaking Up:
Squarepusher – Theme From Sprite

Prom:
Sigur Ros - Glósóli

Life:
Thom Yorke – Black Swan

Mental Breakdown:
Placebo – Summer’s Gone

Driving:
Four Tet - High Fives

Flashback:
Amon Tobin – Easy Muffin

Getting Back Together:
Radiohead – Lucky (Live at Glastonbury 2003)

Wedding:
REM - Leave

Birth of Child:
Brian Eno & Harold Budd - An Arc of Doves

Final Battle:
Tool - Lateralus (happens to be the song they close a set with)

Death Scene:
Portishead – Cowboys

Funeral Song:
Smashing Pumpkins - Soma

End Credits:
Boards of Canada – Farewell Fire (whoa!!
So I've been thinking about going to the Coachella festival in California next year at the beginning of May. What's great about the year coming up is there is a website where people can vote for what bands they want to see there.

The site is here if you want to vote:
www.myspace.com/coachella

It's under the "Who do you want to see in 2007?" on the right side.

So far, I see many votes for: Portishead, Placebo, Chemical Brothers and Smashing Pumpkins. The mention of these bands makes me more than stoked/excited/beyond saying OMFG!!

And... is there anyone also interested in going next year? Bands that have played before are listed on the link above, in case you're curious.

~SPIRAL OUT!

There hasn't really been that much recent music that has "wowed" me in a while.

But that all changed when I heard Broken Social Scene. I don't know, maybe it's the fact that they're a 12 piece band, and there's so much going on at once that your brain is comfortably massaged while engaging in listening to BSS.

I REALLY want to go see them later this month, but it's on a Tuesday, in which I have school. So attendance isn't possible, unfortunately.

The Darkest Star by Depeche Mode is quite great too. To others, it might simply generate a "meh" kind of response, but it's a song that I've listened to three times in one day. I honestly cannot remember the last time I listened to the same song that frequently.

Waking up at 5:15am to get ready for school is actually not that bad, once your circadian rhythms shift to the correct time frame.

I FINALLY (after so long) received my "N", another step in the direction of independence.

The albums 10000 Days and Stadium Arcadium have been taking turns in my cd player, allowing no room for competition. I can definitely hear the Meshuggah influence in Tool's 10000 Days.

RHCP and The Mars Volta on Sept.14 @ GM Place. I would go just for RHCP, but with the addition of The Mars Volta, the event will be well worth the ~$80 ticket price (after service charge and such).

Even though Tool's new release '10000 days' has been leaked, I'm not going to experience it until it is officially released May 2nd.

After waiting 4 years (for some people, 5 years) for the album, I can wait another week and a half for it.

Many people are grabbing a hold of the leaked version, but I prefer to have the album art and liner notes in hand when I experience the album in its entirety; no computer glitches or anything else to disrupt the holy moment.

The phone will be unplugged, the door will be closed, and I will embrace what I have awaited for so long.

Acid all over my hands

I accidentally got a large amount of hydrochloric acid all over my hands today in a lab at UCFV. Luckily, the acid was only there for ~10 seconds and was rinsed off my hands soon afterwards. It wasn't that high of concentration to cause major harm either, otherwise I would have had to wear latex gloves.

However, to this moment (8 hours later) I still have a sense of paranoia blanketing me since I keep thinking of the possibility of developing a disorder of some sort that would end my life much sooner than it should. The worry would only make things worse, so it's best to forget this whole ordeal and have some green tea.

Thomas Jenkinson holds the belief that the machines used to make music hold just as much influence on the users as the users do themselves, and that humans do not control these machines independently; we hold the same mutual creative capacity as them. He says that the restraints musical instruments held in the past were quintessential to music composition and that the insignificance of modern classical music, as a result of new technology, exposes this point. This, he says, is why machines themselves now contribute so much influence to musical composition.

In his view, our common delusion that only we humans are the sole cause of the creative process results with the machine resisting the composer's will, hindering the process of creation. When the machine is unable to collaborate, it works against its user. In his view, the violent domination of machines produce "artifacts of human stupidity, not art." He says this originates from our ideal to control everything, even the prevention of death. This desire to be "controllers" works against us in every instance it can be found. The artists become frustrated that their machine will not cooperate, and this, as Squarepusher claims, is the reason why so many artists have died young, gone insane or committed suicide.

Artists try to represent themselves in their music in an attempt to live after death. As modern music incorporates technology more and more, Jenkinson observes that musicians are the first group of creative society to represent themselves with machines. Our desire to be superior to machines combined with the reality that we are not creates the jealousy of machines; they become the greatest objects of desire.

Is there anyone else out there who has, at one time or another, suffered from a "syndrome" which prohibits enjoyment when listening to music?

ie. listened to too much music over some period of time and reached the point where it just doesn't sound the same, or doesn't satisfy in the way it used to.

Does anyone have an explanation for why headphone cords become incredibly tangled/ full of knots after you take (your pair) out of a bag (carrying it somewhere, for instance)?

I mean, the cord had no knots in it prior to entering the bag, and no one would purposely tangle the cord either...

My 3rd concert attendance being alone.
Scott would have joined me, but he has his reasons. No blame or anything like that intended.
Despite not having the best seat (a few whole sections away from the stage in the stands), it's still a decent one.
